Katy Eary & Mawi Collaboration S/S 2010

f

Menswear Designer Katie Eary Collaborated with Mawi for her  Spring/Summer 2010 catwalk show at London Fashion Week.

The show was very sinister with a sense of bondage glamour and theatrical slaughter. Embellished rib cages set upon graphically blood infused T-Shirts. Skeletal hand covers and metallic limbs made the models look inhumane and threatening.
She has even been dubbed the " Queen of slaughterhouse chic" Suppose you could take that one way or the other... But she's beginning to really gain respect having celebrity fans such as Kate moss and Roisin Murphy.

Katy often gets her inspiration from historical reference and literature: Soviet Satire " The Master and Margarita" but for this particular collection her inspirational starting point was said to be Williams Burrough's 1959 masterpiece " Naked Lunch" Which is said to be both mysterious and terrifying, a dark tale based on human decay and addiction.

The collection is a mix of feelings moods and styles- but i guess that's because its a collaboration. I mean Pearls and Blood aren't normally something you would put together. It's like a Visual Oxymoron, part of me thinks I should look at it with one eye open and one eye closed. It's definitely a reinterpretation of the human body anyway! I like this designer, she's not afraid and i think she may be one to watch ;)
Morbidly Elegant...
