Friday

I love the unstable camera work and the rush and fluster of this video. Its from the eye perspective of Lady Gaga. Its seems unsteady and blurred.

I love this images taken by Photographer Carl Bengtsson for contributor May 2010.

Ive been looking into depression and self destruction as I believe this spins off from my theme of pollutant relating to the pollution of the mind.

These images are quite disturbing, it almost appears the model is suffocating themselves. Taking ones life, the highest form of depression, lead from a polluted way of thinking or mind.

Chrissy Angliker’s Oil Paintings All Drip Artistically

Chrissy Angliker is a New York based artist who features dripping art. She creates these unique oil paintings using a brush and the natural force of gravity.
It is interesting to see how the portraits have such distinct features, even though they seem to be melting.
I find that the collection of her work has a serious tone to it, but what do you think?

These paintings look disturbed and uneasy. The dripping oil paintwork creates a dirty 'polluted' feel. The characters look disturbed and distant. Somewhat like a polluted minded person.

I like to look into art as forms of inspiration.

I came across this artist who i thought was particularly interesting.

One of my favourite performance pieces, Janine Antoni’s ‘Loving Care,’ (1996), is shown. She uses her hair as a paintbrush to slather an entire galley floor in hair dye, literally flipping the ‘bird’ toward abstract expressionism.

This game me the idea of interpreting oil and paint within a photo-shoot. Pollution of the body.

This film has a tough grungy presence. The tones and styling is all very sharp in dark hues. This relates back to pollution as its strong and can take over both physical and mental things.
Third year and my first three projects :)

So I had to create and work with three projects within one major project.
I toyed around with loads of different ideas but came back to three themes that I have begun to investigate and explore.
Pollutant Purity and Power

Unintentional Alliteration, yet I believe they work well as contrasts and have strong individual purpose.

Ive began to research in depth using sketchbooks to portray my ideas and possible outcomes. As I love to style I imagine photo-shoots will come into play... However at the minute I'm exploring all the options.

You'll see lots of different sources of information both on  here and within my sketchbooks. I'll clearly tag each one relevant to each theme.

Wish my luck :)

Chanel at Harrods

The Brompton road store façade will feature Chanel themed windows, inspired by Karl Lagerfeld's most recent Ready-to-Wear collection. In-store fashion and beauty boutiques are staged alongside an installation based on the iconic Chanel design codes, as defined by Coco Chanel, which include pearl, monochrome and the camellia flower motif.
The one-off Chanel fashion boutique is located on the ground floor and is accessible from Brompton and Hans Road. Exterior walls are back and white, embossed with lions heads. Inside, the boutique splits into three rooms, one red, one green and one blue, displaying accessories, bags, shoes, and fine jewellery against a backdrop of a sumptuous, magical forest. On Monday 5th September Harrods will host a Chanel takeover in honour of the iconic brand's lasting influence and creativity. The beauty boutique is also located on the ground floor and showcases the "Knightsbridge Collection", created by Peter Philips, Creative Director of Chanel make-up.
The installation on the Third Floor titled "Une Promenade", open to the public on Tuesday 6th September, completes the Chanel experience at Harrods. With a theme of "Coco in Wonderland" the entrance is marked by a curtain of pearl-like beads and takes the visitor on a journey through the aforementioned Chanel codes.

Lanvin's Fall 2011/12.
This campaign is a real breath of fresh air because it's mixing a chic glamourous fashion brand with humour to bring it back down to earth.
With Raquel Zimmermann, Karen Elson, Lowel Tautchin, Milo Spijkers and Alber Elbaz himself dancing around to Pitbull.

V Festival

My Festival Virginity has been well and truly taken by V Festival 2011 :)

I've always wondered what all the hype was about and couldn't comprehend the nations love for bad weather, dirty toilets crowds and mud. Lots of mud.
HOWEVER
My Faith has been restored in our lovely english lot and I would now happily sacrifice all home comforts year in year out to attend the Festival Frenzies.

As soon as you arrive its as though you're walking into a big fluffy happy bubble. Everybody is so friendly and outgoing, because lets face it we're all there to do the same thing,  have a fucking good time.

If we could bottle up the atmosphere and sell it on... we'd be laughing.

I saw so many different artists in the space of one weekend it makes me feel dizzy. Eminem, Rhianna, The script, Jessie J, Kaiser Chiefs, Dizzie Rascal, Example, The saturdays, Ellie Goulding, The wanted and Eliza Doolittle to name a few.

Now your the real Celebrities... My Girlfriends :)

My First Festival Outfits...

This is our Almost completed film... But some reason the Final Final one is too large to upload onto vimeo... but this gives you a close idea ;)

FMP Overview...

Coming towards the end of my Fashion Campaign Project I wanted to reflect back and review my own progress.

First and foremost, I'm really pleased with the final outcome, for the first time i didn't have any idea what it may have been. I think this was because i challenged myself by choosing something I wasn't completely familiar with and secretly scared of. Technology and Film.
However, although it has been hard work, i've overcome my demons and realised it isn't as scary as it seems, and when you get the hang of it it's actually quite good fun. It's all about trial and error- just like the rest of your life really...

The film itself shows reference to all the key elements extracted from our research, Anatomy, structure, intertwined, movement. Considering we had two sets of exhausted development, our work began to distort and become somewhat farfetched... but for this film- i think it works.
We talked lots about contrast, as the entire project has seemed to become one, from having a designer who was trying to work against her own 'girly' style to create something quite dark and grungy, to the mix up of textures and fabrics- tough leather vs flowing chiffon's. There was the detailed anatomy, with hard structured bones to soft juicy flesh, the colour palate of dark bruised purples and burnt blood red compared to rose pastel pink cheeks.
Our film doesn't necessarily promote our designers latest collection, but tells a abstract story of her moods feelings and concept towards its development.

I feel like i've learnt a lot from this project, I've felt engaged and motivated compared to some where i've rushed and worked backwards after making the final piece first.

Installation Proposal.

Realistically if the timing wasn't an issue I would have liked to project the film through a series of sculptures that would have reflected the genre. Maybe even looked at doing so outdoors.

I like the idea of creating skeletal Forms such as the ones below and showing the films upon them. This refers back to the base of all research, the starting point if you like: Anatomy. This would also boost the spooky unnerving feel that has become apparent throughout the development of our film.

Installation Idea's & Research

Whilst researching installation ideas that i would have pursued having had more time i came across The Ralph Lauren 4D projection. I was taken back by this, Its a true digital innovation. Shown on november 10th 2010 on The two Flagship Store  London 1 New Bond street and 888 Madison Avenue New york, They became real life canvases.
The projection Technique is called Digital Projection Mapping, and made both flagship buildings seem to suddenly disappear, then reappear, block-by-block, before they each opened up like dollhouses to unleash a 3D spectacle parades of gigantic models, and larger than life products. The air was even filled with Ralph Lauren's Big Pony Fragrance- Giving what the brand called a 4D twist ;)
Even if it did set the brand back at a six figure sum, and took 150 experts months to create, its got to be worth it yeah? Revolutionary.
It would be amazing for Sarah and I do create something on this scale for our FMP, for the audience to really feel involved...
However I'm sure you sympathise that as a student... Its a touch out of the budget.

Maybe one day though...

Outdoors Installation

If we had the time and resources I would love to screen our film in the environment it was shot. Preferably at night. Due to the Film editing being so time consuming with alot of trial and error we didn't get chance to put installation into practice. However given the task again it would definitely be something i would like to develop and take further.

By Showing the film in the environment it was shot you could engage all senses of your audience, instead of just sight they would experience the smell touch and taste of the surroundings. By setting the screening at night you could create a sense of fear and unease, somewhat like how we portrayed our character in the video campaign.

Kate Moss Hologram Video By Alexander Mcqueen

I've always loved this video. Collaborating my favorite Designer and Model :)
More importantly i think it demonstrates a Ghost like illusion through the use of blurred smoked holograms...
I think we could recreate this style in our video with transparent overlaying and over exposure.
Just a thought...

Kate Moss Topshop Campaign

The glare and intense lighting of this video. You could argue that you cant clearly see the collection... but, does that actually matter?
You get the style and feeling so is it really necessary to see every last detail? Or isn't that the job of look book...

Final Film- photography Edits

We're working on further editing techniques with our film now. Adding layering and Type etc.
I've added some pictures above to give you a insight to the style we're creating. The circle overlay links back to anatomy and the circle of life- a key element of our initial research. We've also tried to create a mystical eery aspect with the blurred transparent imagery. This links back to the unnerving skeletal idea again that came from the anatomy research.
